9) Do not forget to apply sunscreen with a SPF of minimum 15 at least 10 minutes before going out of house. If you get a suntan, relieve yourself with a mixture of curd and cucumber juice.

1. Dry skin -


To avoid any sort of skin problem, one should drink at least eight to ten glasses of water a day to keep dry skin well hydrated. Along with it, eat a high quality healthy diet rich in fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables; get some exercise and the secret 8-hour sleep daily to get a healthy skin.

Home remedies for dry skin:

� Do not expose yourself to sun too much, as well as to too much air conditioning.

� Reduce how often you wash your face to maximum two times a day, and if possible use slightly tepid water.

� Avoid caffeine and alcohol as they cause dehydration. Also do not smoke, as smoking deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients making it dry and flaky.

� Massage your face every night before sleeping with a good hydrating moisturizer, and be generous in the areas surrounding the eyes.

2. Oily skin -

Oily skin is the least vulnerable, and it ages least of all. The best thing to do is to take measures to keep the skin pores from being clogged and forming acne.

- Follow strictly the experts' advice - clean your face two to three times daily with a good medicated soap, one, which works well with your skin.

- It is best to use water based non-comedogenic product that effortlessly and effectively dissolves sebum.

- Use an oil free moisturizer to maintain a shine free complexion. It will also help if you use tepid water to clean face as it loosens the dirt easily.

- Before applying make-up, use an antiseptic day cream which contains benzyl peroxide as it reduces sebaceous secretions.

Home remedies for oily skin �

- Cucumber juice works great on oily skin. Before applying make-up, rub it on the excessively oily parts of your face and dry it thoroughly.

- It is very important that you definitely remove all make up before going to bed. Gram flour mixed with curd acts as an effective cleansing milk which cleans open pores.

Dry skin treatment with herbal and ayurvedic remedies


Excessively dry skin can put a great dampener on the overall appearance of the person. Dry skin lacks the glow and the sheen of normal skin. It can become easily scratched and cracked, due to which there could be bruises on the skin even with slight frictions. Dry skin also loses its natural color. For all these reasons, it is very necessary to get dry skin treated as soon as possible.

Dry skin is generally caused due to environmental conditions. It is observed in cold weather, when the climate is too dry and cool. Since the climate is dry, it absorbs the water content of the skin, due to which it becomes dry. In this sense, dry skin is caused by vata vitiation. But sometimes, the skin becomes dry in the hot season also. If this happens, then the cause is a pitta vitiation.


(1) Useful Herbs/Plants in the Treatment of Dry skin

1. Aloe vera (Aloe vera)
Aloe vera replenishes the skin by providing the nutrients it lacks. Its extracts are used for massaging the skin.

2. Apple (Malus domestica)
Apple contains potassium and tannin which are both necessary to maintain the healthy texture of the skin. Apple not only removes the dryness of the skin, but also makes it appear shinier.

3. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus)
Cucumber is beneficial if the dryness is especially over the face. The juices of the cucumber have a cooling effect on the face. Also the juices provide the lost water content to the face and reduce its dryness.


(2) Dietary Treatments for Dry skin

Since dry skin is caused due to vata or pitta vitiation, the diet should be designed to reduce these vitiations. Vata is the air element; while pitta is the fire element. The following guidelines must be followed:-

1. Cook your food in a little fat, suitably ghee. The food must not be totally dry.

2. If the dry skin is a result of vata vitiation (dry skin in cold weather), then eat foods that are heavy on the stomach. But do not use much spices.

3. If the dry skin is a result of pitta vitiation (dry skin in hot weather), then eat light foods that are easy to digest. Use more fibers in the diet.

4. Sweet foods are good for both vitiations.

5. Eat lots of fruits. Consume more of the sweet foods to build up the starch content in the skin.

6. The best condiments and spices to be used in the diet are cumin, coriander and turmeric. These soothe the skin.

7. Water is the most important part of the diet for correcting dry skin. About 7 to 8 glasses of water must be consumed in a day. But the water should be at room temperature. Cold water will aggravate the vata further.

8. Avoid alcohol and caffeine-containing beverages since they can make the skin drier.


(3) Home Medications

a. In order to reduce the dryness of the skin, massage therapy must be used. Any herbal oil will do for the massage. Almond, avocado and olive oils are the best. The whole skin must be massaged and fingers must be used to dig deeper so as to pass the oil into the skin. After the massage, you must wait for about half an hour (keep the massaged skin exposed to the air if possible) and then go for a bath. The period helps the oil to permeate into the skin.

b. If the dryness is on the face, then make a paste of about a teaspoonful of rose water and two of honey. Smear this paste nicely on the face. Let it remain for a couple of minutes and then wash it off with slightly warm water.

c. Mayonnaise gives good results when applied on the dry skin and let be for some time.

d. An apple can be used for treating excessive dryness of the skin. Cut an apple in half and run its fleshy part on the skin. Apply a bit of pressure and squeeze the apple onto the skin to let its juices flow in.

e. Do not use tap water for washing the face. Tap water contains chloride ions which may harm the dry skin. Use mineral water instead. In a similar manner, do not use an ordinary soap on the skin. There are soaps available with moisturizers. Use them when having your bath.

Maintain a proper daily regimen. Try to get up at a fixed time each morning and go to bed at a fixed time. The adage �Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy, wealth and wise' is very true in the case of dry skin.

Regular exercise is also important. Exercise makes the blood circulate better, due to which the nutrients are transported to all parts of the body. This will make the skin moister.

How To Correctly Exfoliate Oily Skin


An important part of keeping oily skin under control is keeping the topmost layer of your skin free of debris and oil build up. It is important not to over strip the skin and to use mild cleansers because harsh skin care products can create a cycle of oiliness that just gets worse.

When your skin is too dry, it tries to correct the moisture imbalance by creating more of its natural oils. By adding exfoliation to your skin care regimen, you open pores and remove toxins from the skins surface, allowing the skin to breathe more naturally. This is important in alleviating oily skin. Aside from this, fine lines will become less visible with regular exfoliation and your skin will have a healthy glow.

These steps describe a total body exfoliation, but may be adapted for exfoliating only the face. It should be noted that over exfoliation can lead to cracked skin and broken capillaries just beneath the skins surface layer, so exfoliate but do not over do it.

Wet your entire body in the bath or shower. A slick, smooth skin surface is important to keep the skin from being pulled (which stretches it).

Apply an organic exfoliating treatment (you want to find or make one for oily skin) to a pair of exfoliating gloves (the exfoliation surface of the gloves should not be too rough). Make sure the treatment is well dispersed over the exfoliating surface of the gloves. Exfoliating treatments that utilize citric juices as ingredients are good for oily skin.

Beginning with your feet, massage the treatment over the entire surface of your skin, being very careful with sensitive areas like the insides of arms and thighs. Your massaging should consist of small circles which overlap each other repeatedly.

Once you work up to the top of your thighs, switch and start on your arms. Your torso should be last. It is recommended to save your face by exfoliating it with your normal skin care. Exfoliating your face in the mirror allows you to see when you are being too rough with it. You do not realize how much you are pulling your facial skin when you cannot see it.

Rinse your body thoroughly. Cleanser left on the skin can be overly drying and lead to even more oil production.

Follow with a good organic moisturizer for oily skin applied to wet or damp skin. This will help seal water into the outer layers of the skin which can help balance the moisture content and allow your skin to slow its oil production.

Tips:

Exfoliation is for men, too! When making your own exfoliating treatments, you can make your man more comfy about this by watching the fragrances of essential oils you may use. Using the woodsy essential oils will give the treatment a more masculine scent. By making your own moisturizers, you can do the same with moisturizer; he may be more inclined to use it this way.

When exfoliating the face, apply a bit of witch hazel with a cotton ball for a mild astringent to help with oil control.
Mix 4 tablespoon organic oat flour with 2 tablespoons powdered milk and 1 tablespoon lemon juice to make a smooth paste. Apply to face, let sit until dry, and rinse with warm water. This can be used a couple of times a week.

If you have contacts, be very careful. The fine particles in exfoliating treatments (which are necessary for exfoliation) can scratch or tear your contacts or become trapped under your contact and scratch your cornea. When rinsing, make sure your eyes are tightly closed.

Oatmeal exfoliation can be very soothing to your skin. It is rather sticky and messy, so be sure to do this over the sink (so you can rinse you hands easily after application and so the mess falls in the sink not on the floor). First take a tablespoon of honey and spread it over the entire face. Let this sit for 3 to 5 minutes because its moisturizing properties will loosen the upper layer of debris and old oil.

Then take oatmeal and press in onto the face, making it stick to the honey, leave for another 3 to 5 minutes (allowing the natural chemicals in the two to mix). Begin massaging the mixture all over the face making tiny circles. You can just rinse with warm water after this process, but you may want to use a mild, organic cleanser. Either way, follow with a good organic moisturizer for oily skin.

Healing Dry Skin: Eight Easy Home Remedies


Two little old ladies were sitting on a park bench outside the local town hall where a flower show was in progress. One leaned over and said, "Life is so dang boring. We never have any fun anymore! For five dollars I'd take my clothes off and streak through that stupid flower show."

"You're on!" said the other old lady, holding up a $5.00 bill.
The first little old lady slowly fumbled her way out of her clothes and, completely naked, streaked (as fast as an old lady can) through the front door of the flower show.

Waiting outside, her friend soon heard a huge commotion inside the hall, followed by loud applause and shrill whistling. The smiling old lady came through the exit door surrounded by a cheering crowd.

"What happened?" asked her waiting friend.

"I won 1st prize as Best Dried Arrangement!"

Many of us know that we don't have to be pushing eighty years old to suffer from dry skin, especially in the cold, winter months. When furnaces are blasting, woodstoves are roaring and fireplaces are crackling, our skin can pay the price. Space heaters and electric blankets can also dry out the skin, and so can the excessive use of tanning beds and saunas.

Dry, flaky skin isn't a disease, it's a condition - brought on by a lack of moisture or water in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin.) The epidermis is composed of tissue primarily made up of sulfur-containing fibrous proteins called keratin, the same chemical basis as hair and nails. Keratin needs water to keep it supple and pliant. When moisture evaporates more quickly, the result is dry, itchy skin.

Think of what happens when you take a fresh, soft slice of bread and put it in the toaster for two minutes. The heat removes the moisture and the bread becomes hard, dry and crumbly.

A common misconception is that the dryness is a result of a lack of oil in the skin. This is not true. It is water that the skin thirsts for and the answer is to keep that water in.

Here are eight easy home remedies for dry skin:

1. Turn down the thermostat. Try keeping the air somewhat cooler by turning the thermostat down a notch or two. Think of the dry, parched heat-baked desert floor as opposed to the smooth, malleable soil of the forest. Just like the ground we walk on, skin will react better to cooler conditions.

2. Use a humidifier. Place humidifiers throughout the house, especially in bedrooms. If you don't have a humidifier, keep a kettle of water on the woodstove.

3. Get more plants. A healthy dose of plants in each room will help to keep moisture in the air, but be sure to water them frequently.

4. Take a bath. Instead of showering every day, revitalize your skin by spending a few minutes soaking in lukewarm water every other day or at least two times a week. Don't use hot water and don't over-soak. A simple fifteen minute bath will do the trick.

5. Use the right soap. Not all soaps have the same ingredients and some are much harsher than others. Some of them contain lye, which can wreak havoc on dry or sensitive skin. Using a brand that contains lanolin, cocoa butter or cold cream will help reduce dryness.

6. Lubricate your skin. Use a moisturizing lotion to trap the water in. First, pat dry with a clean, soft towel. Don't rub because this only tends to irritate dry skin. Then apply a moisturizer. Although most lotions will work just fine for helping to keep the water in, the most effective of all moisturizers are a class called humectants, which include alpha hydroxy acids. They help the skin to maintain moisture.

7. Get your omegas. Incorporating the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 into the cell membranes is another way to combat dry skin. These can be found in nuts and seeds as well as the oils of soybean, sunflower and evening primrose.

8. Enjoy the sunshine. Get out there and frolic in the snow but be sure to cover your skin with the proper clothing and use lip balm and suntan lotion on exposed areas. Sunshine helps the body to convert Vitamin D, and exercise helps to circulate the blood throughout the body. Good circulation is crucial to good health.

While few of us are in line to win the "best dried arrangement" prize, many of us do know the discomfort of battling dry, itchy skin during the cold, winter months.

Just remember that the most effective treatment is to keep the water in. By applying the above-mentioned remedies to our daily and weekly schedules, you'll not only save your skin from premature wrinkling, you'll also breathe cleaner air and you'll save money as well in lower heating costs and less expensive soaps, lotions and ointments.

What You Should Know Before Buying ANY Skin Care


How do you choose your skin care? Most people buy their skin care products on the basis of a brand name and marketing hype without thinking twice about checking the list of ingredients, and even the minority who may read it may not really know exactly what it's telling them� But you should look a lot more closely at the ingredient list because no matter who makes a product, how expensive it is or how nice the packaging is, you could be throwing your money away on something that is detrimental to the health of your skin and body (even with the so-called 'natural' skin care brands).

The average western woman applies as many as 200 different chemicals to her skin each day in the form of cleansing products, cosmetics & perfumes. With as much as 60% of these potentially being absorbed through the skin into your system it pays to know exactly what you're applying to your skin.
With a very small number of exceptions, the great majority of products on the market today have small amounts of active ingredient, often diluted with water, artificial thickeners and cheap synthetic ingredients to the point where the good ingredients are no longer effective. Then preservatives are added to give the product a long shelf life. Many companies use far more preservative than is strictly necessary (who needs or wants a product so full of preservatives it could have a shelf life of 10 years?!?) Many of these additives and preservatives can then cause irritation and skin reactions.
The truth is that the simplest and purest ingredients are often those that will give you results � the rest is often unnecessary filler to make the product look and feel more substantial or appealing and in the process boost the profits made by the big skincare companies.

The vast majority of products are also crammed full of silicones, plastic based polymers which coat the skin to give it a false feeling of hydration and smoothness.
Silicones make skin feel smooth initially, but they stop skin from functioning normally. It can't breathe and eliminate toxins as it normally would. The toxins are then reabsorbed into the skin, stagnating and causing skin problems, puffiness and dullness. Using silicone-laden products is the cosmetic equivalent of wearing a plastic bag over your skin!

So which ingredients should be avoided and why?

There are thousands of questionable ingredients contained in everyday products, so it pays to educate yourself, but below is a small sample of some of the most common ones to avoid:

� Silicones (e.g. Dimethicone, Carbomer, Cyclopentasiloxane to name just a few) � Present in the vast majority of moisturising products. Prevents skin from normal function & lead to toxin build up as described above.
� Ammonium Laureth Sulphate & Sodium Laureth Sulphate (also known as ALS & SLS) � Common in cleansing products such as shampoo & face wash. Mutagenic known toxic agents which can be retained in fat cells for years & can cause dermatitis. Reproductive hazard.
� Propylene/Butylene Glycol (also called rose ether) � Basically antifreeze. Is a known carcinogenic (cancer causing agent) and mutagenic agent very common in skin care.
� Petrochemical fillers (e.g. Mineral oil/paraffin) � Synthetic petroleum based hydrocarbon used as emollient. Extreme toxicity. Known mutagenic, irritant and allergen. Often favoured by uninformed doctors as it forms a barrier.
� Phenoxyethanol � Often used as a preservative. Known toxic agent which may cause allergic reactions. Harmful if swallowed or inhaled. Can cause eczema or reproductive defects.
� Artificial fragrances (parfum) - Synthetic fragrances used in cosmetics can contain hundreds of chemicals all banded together under the simple term "fragrance". Individual chemicals within these fragrances have been known to cause a very long list of problems.
� Artificial colours - Many synthetic colours are believed to be carcinogenic.


A lot of skin care companies will not provide their ingredient lists. In the case of at least one household-name skin care giant, the ingredient lists are aggressively guarded by online customer care departments. You have to ask what they are trying to hide.

If you have allergies or skin problems then you should check the ingredients of every cosmetic product before buying. Most developed countries require by law that product ingredients be listed on the label or packaging so that's one place to find them if you are buying in person at a store.
When buying via mail order or online you'd be recommended to only buy from retailers who are upfront about the ingredients in their products and freely provide the complete ingredient list (not just the ones they want you to know about) for inspection on their website.

Skin tag removal is usually performed clinically by the dermatologist or your family doctor at the clinic. Laser Skin Resurfacing - When Acne Scars Need that Extra Push


Most people suffer from acne at some point in their lives, and it's no secret that the experience can be fairly miserable. Recent advances in research have led to a whole new slew of skin care products to help clear skin up...but what about the scars left behind? This is when laser skin resurfacing may become a consideration.

First, this treatment is quite quick, and can often be performed in a surgeon's or dermatologist's office. Jack and Mary were desperate. Mary received a big promotion in another state and Jack was looking for a new job in the same city. It was just too good to pass up. Mary was a rising star in the health care industry and with the huge pay boost and promotion it was a job she had dreamed of ever since leaving graduate school armed with her MBA. Jack was a natural born salesperson and could work anywhere selling just about anything. He liked high tech sales in the high ticket electronics field and was close to catching on with a company in the same city as Mary's new job. One problem, they had a large house to sell in a very slow and slumping real estate market.

Jack and Mary counseled with the local real estate ace that had long been the resident expert Realtor for their community. They had been in their home for six years and with the past real estate surge they had lots of equity now. Because this was happening so fast, Mary moved to a small apartment near her new job. The relocation price offered by the company was way too low for what they felt they could command in the market. This option was rejected. With ongoing brain storming with Tyler the Realtor, the scenarios included, lease options, lease purchase, and a seller held second. The lease scenarios would be the iffiest of the three. Jack and Mary instructed Tyler to hold the price and offer to pay the selling Realtor a selling fee plus a bonus of $2,500 and agreed to pay the closing costs and prepaid expenses (pre-paid interest, tax and insurance escrows) up to an offered $14,000. Likewise, Tyler was instructed to offer through the MLS selling terms to include a seller held second of 5% to 10% of the purchase price. The list price of $475,000 would mean that the Jack and Mary were willing to hold a second mortgage of 5% Loan To Value (LTV) or $475,000 x 5% = $23,750 or 10% LTV at $475,000 x 10% = $47,500.
Tyler, the listing Realtor, had been in discussion with a mortgage broker active in their area and had some clients that could only get a 90% to 95% LTV first mortgage. They had some credit dings, which were holding them back. Each had fully documented income and was making good money. There were valid reasons for their rocky credit history and both needed time to rebuild their credit. Tyler showed the home to both the prospective buyers who had credit challenges. The first couple didn't like the kitchen layout or the back yard size. The second couple liked the house and had similar reservations but with the flexible financing they figured they could live with it and make changes and improvements down the road when they could refinance down the road and get sufficient monies to do some home improvements.

Jack had closed up the house and had moved with the furniture in tow to join Mary at her new location. The furniture was put into storage in hopes that it wouldn't be there long with Realtor Tyler on the case. Jack had been actively working on his job hunt in the new city for two weeks now. Tyler was now on the phone presenting the offer from the buyers who needed seller help. The buyers would need Jack and Mary to pay $15,000 in closing costs and prepaid expenses. Tyler was making the deal himself so there was no bonus involved. The offer was based on a seller held second mortgage of $47,500 with an interest rate of 10% with a 30-year term and a three-year balloon. The payments would be $416.85/month. At closing, Jack and Mary would payoff their first mortgage of $200,000 and would get somewhere around $188,000 in cash at closing and the seller held second of $47,500.00 paying $416.85/month. Tyler went on to explain that the buyers were putting very little of their own money in the deal and explained the downside risk involved if the buyers defaulted. The only way they could protect their 2nd mortgage equity would be to buy in the first mortgage or just take the loss. Tyler and the mortgage broker, with the buyer's permission, indicated that Jack and Mary were in essence underwriting the 2nd mortgage loan on part of the buyers. It was up to them to pass or deny.

On weekends Jack and Mary were looking at new homes, which might meet their needs. One in particular, due to the soft market, the builder was offering major concessions and sales inducements including paying all the closing costs and prepaid expenses. With potentially $180,000 cash available for any purchase they were looking at a builder deal loaded with incentives for a home worth $750,000, which they could now buy for $650,000. The nagging fear was what would happen if the 2nd mortgage payer defaulted. Since, it was up to Jack and Mary to pass on the buyer's credit worthiness, with the buyer's permission, they went over their entire credit package and personally interviewed them on the phone to find out something of the character of the buyers and the back ground of the of how the credit dings had taken place. It turns out it was a temporary medical problem that had put them behind the eight ball and precipitated their credit dings. Jack and Mary decided to take the deal. Since the buyers had been already pre-qualified, the sale took place in two weeks.

Jack and Mary, with closing funds in hand, closed moved into their new home. Six months had passed and the buyer's of their prior residence had made their second mortgage payments on time as agreed. The home had everything they wanted in a home except a pool and spa. The dilemma for Jack and Mary, even though they had got an incredible interest rate in the soft market they were reluctant to incur any additional debt with the 2nd mortgage paying off in now 2.5 years. Jack received a letter in the mail from an investment note buyer who was offering to buy the note at a discount since the note now has some "seasoning". Running the math, with the investor getting a 15%+ yield on a 10% face rate ballooning in the next 30 months were offering to buy the note for $42,900 cash. Just for grins, Jack being the super salesman and dealmaker had been working on construction quotes with a pool contractor. He had managed to negotiate a $5,000 reduction and could put everything they wanted for $40,000. Pool contractors were slow right along with the rest of the real estate market. Jack and Mary showed the documentation to the note buyer that indicated six months of on time payments together with copies of the note and mortgage. The note was sold netting out $42,000 in cash. The pool was built the following week. Life was good.
